Regular car servicing is important for maintaining your vehicle’s safety, reliability and performance. At Clare Auto, our qualified technicians carry out thorough inspections and checks to identify developing problems before they have the opportunity to become more serious or expensive repairs.

A comprehensive car service looks beyond simply changing the engine oil. We inspect key components throughout your vehicle, record important findings and let you know if anything requires attention now or may need to be planned for in the future.

Comprehensive Car Servicing by Clare Auto

Where appropriate, your car service includes a comprehensive road test to help identify issues that may not be obvious while the vehicle is stationary. Our technicians listen for unusual noises and vibrations and assess the vehicle’s general operation, including checking that the air conditioning system is working correctly.

These road tests can provide valuable information about how your vehicle performs under normal driving conditions.

Our technicians carry out a careful inspection under the bonnet, checking important components and fluid levels that contribute to reliable vehicle operation. This includes:

Oils and fluids: Checking and replenishing required oils and fluids, including engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid and clutch fluid where applicable.

Leaks: Looking for signs of fluid leaks that could indicate a developing problem.

Hoses: Inspecting hoses for deterioration, damage or other signs of potential failure.

Battery: Checking the condition and performance of the battery to help ensure reliable starting.

Many important components are located underneath your vehicle, making an under-vehicle inspection an essential part of a thorough car service. Our checks include:

Leaks: Checking for oil, coolant and other fluid leaks.

Engine mounts: Inspecting mounts for wear or damage that could contribute to vibration or movement.

Exhaust system: Checking for damage, deterioration or exhaust leaks.

CV joints and boots: Inspecting for signs of wear, damage or split boots.

Corrosion: Looking for evidence of corrosion that may affect components or vehicle structure.

Suspension and shock absorbers: Checking for wear, damage and other issues that can affect handling and ride quality.

Tyres and wheels: Checking tyre condition, tread depth and wheel condition.

Brakes: Inspecting the braking system and recording brake pad wear so you can plan ahead for replacement when required.

A thorough car service also includes checking key interior and exterior safety and operating equipment, including:

Handbrake: Testing operation and effectiveness.

Dashboard instruments and warning lights: Checking that instruments and warning indicators are operating correctly.

Wipers and washers: Checking operation and condition for effective windscreen cleaning.

Windscreen and windows: Inspecting for visible chips, cracks or damage.

Lights and horn: Checking that exterior lights and the horn are operating correctly.

Bonnet and boot supports: Inspecting supports and their operation.

One of the benefits of regular servicing is that it gives your technician an opportunity to identify developing issues early. At Clare Auto, we record important details such as brake pad wear and tyre tread depth, helping you understand the current condition of your vehicle and plan for maintenance or replacement when necessary.

Small problems can sometimes become much more expensive if they are left unattended. Regular servicing provides an opportunity to keep track of your vehicle’s condition and address issues before they potentially affect safety, reliability or performance.

Identifying Problems Before They Become Bigger Repairs

We understand that the current cost of living can make it tempting to delay a car service. However, putting off routine maintenance can compromise your vehicle’s safety and performance and may allow relatively small issues to develop into more expensive repairs. We’re seeing more vehicles arrive after servicing has been delayed, only for minor problems to have grown into bigger jobs. To make keeping your vehicle maintained a little easier, Clare Auto offers Afterpay as a flexible payment option for eligible services. This can help you spread the cost of your car service while gaining peace of mind that your vehicle is being properly maintained.

Keeping up with regular car servicing is an important part of responsible vehicle ownership. At Clare Auto, our technicians take a thorough and practical approach to servicing, inspecting the components that matter for your vehicle’s safety, reliability and everyday performance.

If your car is due for a service, or you’re concerned that servicing has been delayed, contact Clare Auto in Clare to book an inspection and keep your vehicle on the road with confidence.

Car Service & Vehicle Checks in Clare | Clare Auto

Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle that make direct contact with the road, making them one of the most important safety components on any passenger car, SUV, 4WD, ute, van or light commercial vehicle. Whether you're commuting around Clare, towing a trailer, heading off-road, or travelling long distances across South Australia, properly maintained tyres can improve safety, fuel economy, handling and tyre life.

At Clare Auto, an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, we help drivers get the most from their tyres through regular inspections, pressure testing, tyre rotations, wheel balancing, puncture repairs and expert tyre advice tailored to your vehicle and driving needs.

Tyres are designed to provide grip, stability, braking performance and ride comfort. As tyres wear, their ability to safely perform these functions decreases. Poor tyre maintenance can lead to reduced traction, longer stopping distances, uneven wear, poor fuel economy and increased risk of tyre failure.

Regular tyre inspections can identify issues early, helping to prevent costly replacements and unexpected breakdowns.

Wet roads can significantly reduce tyre grip. As tyre tread wears down, the ability to channel water away from the contact patch decreases, increasing the risk of aquaplaning. This occurs when a layer of water builds between the tyre and road surface, causing a loss of steering, braking and vehicle control.

During wetter months in and around Clare, ensuring adequate tread depth and correct tyre pressures is essential for maintaining safe handling and braking performance.

Many motorists don't realise that tyre pressures naturally change as temperatures fluctuate. During colder weather, air contracts, causing tyre pressures to drop. Underinflated tyres create excessive heat, increase rolling resistance and can lead to accelerated wear or tyre damage.

Overinflated tyres can also create problems by reducing the tyre's contact area with the road, leading to reduced grip and uneven wear.

For this reason, tyre pressures should be checked more frequently during winter. Regular pressure testing helps maximise tyre life, improve fuel economy and maintain safe handling.

Why Tyre Pressure Matters—Especially in Winter

Uneven tyre wear is one of the most common tyre problems and can significantly shorten tyre lifespan.

Signs of uneven wear include:

One of the most common causes of uneven tyre wear is poor wheel alignment. When wheel angles are incorrect, tyres can scrub against the road surface, causing premature wear.

If wheel alignment issues are suspected, Clare Auto can arrange wheel alignments through a trusted tyre partner while your vehicle is already in for servicing or repairs, saving you time and inconvenience.

Front and rear tyres wear at different rates depending on vehicle type, drivetrain configuration and driving habits. Front-wheel drive vehicles typically wear front tyres faster due to steering and braking loads, while some 4WD and AWD vehicles may experience different wear patterns across all four tyres.

Regular tyre rotation helps:

Annual tyre rotations, or more frequently depending on vehicle use, can significantly increase the lifespan of your tyres.

Small maintenance checks can add thousands of kilometres to tyre life while improving safety and fuel efficiency. To get the most from your tyres:

Check tyre pressures regularly, especially during winter

Inspect tyres for cuts, cracks and unusual wear

Have wheel balancing checked when vibration develops

Address suspension or steering issues promptly

Avoid striking kerbs and potholes where possible

Have wheel alignment checked if the vehicle pulls to one side

Your tyres play a vital role in the safety, comfort and performance of your vehicle. Regular inspections, pressure checks, tyre rotations and prompt attention to wear issues can help maximise tyre life while reducing operating costs.

As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, Clare Auto provides professional tyre maintenance advice and services for passenger vehicles, SUVs, 4WDs, utes, vans and light commercial vehicles throughout Clare. Each repair and service is carried out with a focus on quality and reliability. We understand that different vehicles face different challenges, especially when it comes to handling and load-bearing capabilities. For instance, light trucks and utes often require more robust suspension systems due to their heavier loads and usage patterns. Our team is adept at recognising these nuances and providing services that enhance your vehicle's performance and longevity.

We also pay close attention to preventative maintenance, offering services designed to avert future issues and keep your vehicle running smoothly. This includes regular inspections and timely interventions to replace worn components before they lead to more significant problems. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive service that not only addresses current issues but also helps in preventing future complications.

Recognising the warning signs of a failing suspension system is crucial for maintaining your vehicle's safety and performance. One of the most common symptoms is unusual noises, such as clunking or knocking sounds, which may indicate worn or damaged components. If you observe uneven tyre wear, this could be a sign that your suspension system is not functioning correctly, leading to improper tyre alignment.

Difficulty steering or maintaining control of the vehicle, particularly when driving over bumps or around corners, is another red flag. You might also notice that your vehicle pulls to one side, which could suggest an issue with the suspension or steering alignment. Experiencing a rougher ride than usual, where you feel every bump and dip in the road more acutely, can also point to suspension problems.

Another indicator is when your vehicle sits lower on one side, which could mean that a spring has broken or a shock absorber is failing. Additionally, if your vehicle takes longer to come to a complete stop, it could be due to suspension issues affecting your braking efficiency.

Ensuring your vehicle’s suspension system is in optimal condition is key to maintaining a smooth, safe, and controlled driving experience. At Clare Auto, our expert team is ready to provide comprehensive inspections, precise repairs, and regular maintenance tailored to your vehicle’s specific needs. We service a wide range of vehicles, including everyday cars, 4WDs, 4X4s, light trucks, utes, and vans, guaranteeing that we have the expertise to handle your vehicle with the utmost care and professionalism.

Our on-site brake lathe is an incredibly efficient tool for keeping brake rotors in top-notch condition. At Clare Auto, this state-of-the-art equipment offers a trustworthy way to ensure brake rotors are precisely machined. By shaving a thin layer off the rotor's surface, the lathe restores a clean, flat area crucial for peak braking performance. This exact process maximises brake pad contact, thereby boosting the overall effectiveness of the braking system.

At Clare Auto in Clare, our brake lathe provides an economical option for brake rotor care. Instead of facing the cost of rotor replacements, clients can take advantage of machining that refreshes the surface and lessens noise-inducing vibrations. This service not only improves vehicle performance but also prolongs the lifespan of the brake system, ensuring road safety and dependability.

Beyond the financial benefits, employing a brake lathe also supports the environmental efforts at Clare Auto. By choosing to machine existing rotors instead of replacing them, fewer materials are discarded, which cuts down waste and the need for new parts. This method aligns with a more sustainable approach to automotive care, highlighting Clare Auto's commitment to responsible service.

Oil and Fluids Clean oil and properly topped-up fluids (like coolant, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid) are essential for your car to run smoothly and efficiently in the summer heat.

Lights and Wipers Functional headlights, brake lights, and indicators are essential for visibility and safety, especially if you’re driving at night. We’ll also check your windshield wipers to ensure they’re clearing your view effectively.

Suspension and Steering Uneven roads or unexpected potholes can challenge your car’s suspension and steering. A thorough check ensures your vehicle remains stable and easy to handle.

Air Conditioning Let’s face it, no one wants to endure a summer road trip without a working air conditioner. We’ll make sure your A/C is running cold, keeping you comfortable on the journey.
